THE STORY BEHIND GMS RESIDENTIAL CLEANING INC.
GMS Residential Cleaning Inc. started with one man, a vacuum, and a vision. In March of 2000, George Gonzalez launched the company while still working a full-time job — cleaning homes in the evenings and weekends. What began as a side hustle quickly grew into a calling. After a few years of juggling both roles, George made the leap: he left the 9-to-5 and committed himself fully to the business.
Why? Because it wasn’t just about cleaning houses — it was about building relationships.
Over two decades later, GMS has become a trusted name across Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, and surrounding communities. We’re still local, still independent, and still proud to serve every client like family.
MORE THAN CLEANING — A LEGACY OF CONNECTION
George’s story mirrors the homes he’s worked in: full of life, progress, and personal care. He’s seen families grow up, children go off to college, and customers become lifelong friends. His own kids went through the Cedar Rapids school system, graduated from the University of Iowa, and the youngest is now attending Arizona State University. Today, when George isn’t out visiting job sites or mentoring new staff, he’s spending time with his dogs, watching football, or enjoying a cookout with his family.
